Aesthetics

Aesthetics Vs comfort!

This is a classic confusion that raises its head during home designing! It depends on your tastes and preferences. It also depends on the room. For example, a foyer needs aesthetics, but the kitchen definitely needs comfort, whereas the hall needs both in equal measure.

In a home purely designed for aesthetics, comfort might take a backseat. You would love people to compliment your home, but can you live comfortably in a purely show home?

You might think a white countertop will look classy in the kitchen. Unless the maintenance is topnotch, the white countertop might become dull and damaged fast. Then that itself will turn out to be a decision to regret. So, choose what’s your cup of tea.

But, if you plan meticulously, aesthetics and comfort can coexist harmoniously.

Colours and Themes

Colours and themes are the ultimate mood enhancers in any room! Dark or pastel, whatever your colour choice, ample ventilation is the main prerequisite for any room. Always keep in mind, study table, sewing machine or any activity unit in the home for that matter, needs to be in an airy corner with good lighting. If the ventilation is poor, then try keeping the paint theme pastel and fit extra lights.

On the other hand, if you have a resting space to relax amidst a busy day, it is ideal to have a dark paint theme. In these cases, it is suggested to have a false ceiling with tiny light setups.

Furniture

Furniture makes or breaks a room! A simple setup of carpet, coffee table and sofa will bring a comforting elegance to the living room. If you want to get cool and trendy, you would naturally want to have a chic assortment of furniture and fixtures. Don’t spoil your existing furniture to create upcycled styles which might get out of fashion as time progresses, but its always good to preserve it as it is. In case if you are planning to upgrade it, then don’t consider it while designing that room, as you have already planned to change it.

Before any decision, ask yourself

  • What
  • Where
  • How
  • How Long
  • Is it really useful?

These choice questions will help you get a clear cut idea. If still in doubt, list the pros and cons of a design decision. Weigh them and decide which one suits you.

Remember the golden rule – comfortable space that is aesthetically pleasing is the aim!
